BANFF
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Few towns in the world boast as beautiful a
setting as Banff. The mighty Bow River courses right
through town, while massive mountain blocks rear up
on Banff's outskirts. Mount Rundle, a finlike mountain
that somehow got tipped over on its side, parades off
to the south. Mount Cascade rises up immediately north
of downtown. In every direction, still more craggy peaks
fill the sky!

HALIFAX
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Halifax is fairly compact and easily reconnoitered
on foot or by mass transportation. The major landmark
is the Citadel -- the stone fortress that looms over
downtown from its grassy perch. From the ramparts, you
can look into the windows of the tenth floor of downtown
skyscrapers. The Citadel is only 9 blocks from the waterfront
-- albeit 9 sometimes steep blocks -- and you can easily
roam both areas in 1 day!

JASPER
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Just northeast of Jasper, off the Jasper Park
Lodge access road, the Maligne River drops from its
high mountain valley to cut an astounding canyon into
a steep limestone face on its way to meet the Athabasca
River. The chasm of Maligne Canyon is up to 46m (151
ft.) deep at points, yet only 3m (10 ft.) across. A
sometimes-steep trail follows the canyon down the mountainside,
bridging the gorge six times.!

MONTREAL
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Montréal is a feast of choices, able
to satisfy the desires of both physically active and
culturally curious visitors. Depending upon what interests
you and how much time you have, you can hike up imposing
Mont-Royal in the middle of the city, cycle for miles
beside the Lachine Canal, take in artworks and ephemera
at some 20 museums and as many historic buildings...

NIAGARA
FALLS Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
If you're looking for something to keep the
kids amused, visit MarineLand, 7657 Portage Rd. At the
aquarium-theater, King Waldorf, the walrus mascot, presides
over performances by killer whales, dolphins, and sea
lions. Friendship Cove, a 4.5-million-gallon breeding
and observation tank, lets the little ones see killer
whales up close. Another aquarium features displays
of freshwater fish...

OTTAWA
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Most of Ottawa's major sights are clustered
downtown, so it's not difficult to walk from one to
another. The Top Attractions--Guided indoor tours of
the Centre Block are offered on a daily schedule that
varies throughout the year, while guided tours of the
East Block are offered daily in July and August. Make
reservations at the Info-tent on Parliament Hill lawn
behind the West Block, which also distributes a free
Outdoor Self-Guiding booklet.

QUEBEC
CITY Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Wandering at random through the streets of
Vieux-Québec is a singular pleasure, comparable
to exploring a provincial capital in Europe. On the
way, you can happen upon an ancient convent, blocks
of gabled houses with steeply pitched roofs, a battery
of 18th-century cannons in a leafy park, and a bistro
with a blazing fireplace on a wintry day. The old city,
upper and lower, is so compact that it is hardly necessary
to plan precise sightseeing itineraries...

TORONTO
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Toronto has amazing sights to see and places
to be that appeal to travelers of all stripes. The bad
news? No matter how long your stay, you won't be able
to fit everything in. Toronto is a sprawling city, and
while downtown and midtown boast a sizable collection
of attractions, some wonderful sights are in less accessible
areas...

VANCOUVER
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
A city perched on the edge of a great wilderness,
Vancouver offers unmatched opportunities for exploring
the outdoors. There are sidewalk cafes to match those
in Paris and shopping streets that rival London's. The
forest of high-rises ringing the central part of the
city reminds some visitors of New York, while the buzz
and movement of Chinatown is reminiscent of San Francisco.
Comparisons with other places soon begin to pall, however,
as you come to realize that Vancouver is entirely its
own creation...

VICTORIA
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Victoria's top draws are its waterfront --
the beautiful viewscape created by The Fairmont Empress
and the Parliament Buildings on the edge of the Inner
Harbour -- and its historic Old Town. So attractive
are these that folks sometimes forget what a beautiful
and wild part of the world the city is set in. If you
have time, step out of town a little and see some nature:
Sail out to see killer whales, beachcomb for crabs,
kayak along the ocean shorelines, or hike into the hills
for some fabulous views and scenery...

WHISTLER
Sightseeing, Tours & Attractions
Now that both mountain resorts are jointly
operated by Intrawest, your pass gives you access to
both ski areas. Locals have their preferences, but the
truth is that both resorts offer great skiing. Whistler
Mountain has 1,502m (4,927 ft.) of vertical and over
100 marked runs that are serviced by a high-speed gondola
and eight high-speed chairlifts, plus four other lifts
and tows. Helicopter service from the top of the mountain
makes another 100-plus runs on nearby glaciers accessible.
